Why I: HEART (A Selfless Event Recap)

This past weekend represented a milestone in the philanthropic initiative that is Selfless – it marked the first ‘Why I’ event called HEART underneath the Selfless label and its success was, undoubtedly, a re-justification for why Selfless exists today. If you happened to miss out on what HEART is all about, you can check out the site and its related media HERE.

HEART evolved conceptually from a simple get together to a full-out event with catered food, musical performances, live art, auctioned art, merchandise, DJs, an emcee and a multiple thousand dollar budget. Through our collective hard work, HEART was able to grow fruitfully into that new concept and far beyond our expectations when the event finally drew to a close. It says a lot about our movement when even days after, we are still receiving donations for the cause and selling out of our very popular t-shirts – those of which were beautifully designed by Nate Hoops of Royal Mindset, Louis DeGuzman of Potential Villain and Isabel Lee of Wishful Thinker Clothing (The t-shirts will be up soon for online sale, btw).

I can’t even begin to describe how thankful we all are for these guys for their amazing design work, all of our performers, generous attendees and donations, our emcee Julian on the Radio and our beloved venue and staff at RGB Lounge. Even though this event just ended, we have a feeling that it won’t be the last you hear from the Selfless staff – we have already started conceptualizing ideas for our next philanthropic initiative so STAY TUNED! In the meantime, enjoy the photos and the video from HEART!

Fresh Tees for HEART

With HEART coming up in only two days, Chris, Joey and I have been burning the midnight oil (does anyone still say that?) to get things perfect for the event. I just got word that Chris picked up the t-shirts for on-site printing at RGB Lounge, so I figured I’d let you in on the absolutely AMAZING designs we received from Royal Mindset’s Nate Hoops, Potential Villain’s Louis DeGuzman and Wishful Thinker Clothing’s Isabel Lee.

Before anything else, I just want to extend a huge thank you to these guys for their time and design expertise to contribute to the ‘Why I’ movement. As Selfless continues to grow, it’s great to know that this branch-off initiative has garnered so much support in so little time. Definitely the start of something special. Charity event merch tends to be pretty corny, but these artists have definitely made giving back look fresh. Check it out:

NATE HOOPS (ROYAL MINDSET) TEE | $15

LOUIS DEGUZMAN (POTENTIAL VILLAIN) TEE | $15

ISABEL LEE (WISHFUL THINKER CLOTHING) TEE | $15

We’ll have limited quantities available at HEART in both men’s and women’s sizes, so if you’re looking to scoop some tees up, arrive early and get ‘em while you can. If in the event that we sell out of your size, we’ll be putting the tees up for online sale post-show (with proceeds going to charity of course)…but hey, why not try and grab one just in case you spill some 5411 Empanadas eats all over your charity/art show/Sunday best? But if you call it swag, we’re going to charge you $20. Kidding. Maybe.

Anyway, it’s supposed to be a beautiful day and with Big Star having their furniture yard sale (with proceeds going to the Garfield Park Conservatory, it seems like Wicker Park will be all about giving back this Sunday. More announcements coming soon!

Ennis Martin x HEART Timelapse

If you haven’t heard about the ‘Why I’ movement and our HEART event, good thing you’re reading this now since the event is this SUNDAY, AUGUST 21st from 2-6pm at RGB Lounge. Here’s a little excerpt from my previous post: In an attempt to revamp the traditionally dry, stuffy feel of philanthropy, at HEART you…

Another crazy night at RGB

Chris and I went to meet up with Stu (curator) at RGB Lounge to iron out some more details about our HEART event.  Jaz tagged along too so she could see the space and some of the art that was already hanging there.  She also got a chance to meet Ennis one of the artists…
